EDUCATION & OUTREACH

For two weeks every summer, rising 8th-grade girls from across California attend a STEM enrichment program at UCSB that incorporates in-class learning and interdisciplinary group projects. I help teach the marine science core class - we cover cool topics like food webs, biodiversity, marine ecosystems, and ocean exploration!

Each fall and spring, UCSB graduate students from a variety of STEM fields bring science and engineering demonstrations to local middle school students and their families. Among others, I help lead the Elephant Toothpaste activity, which presents the concept of a chemical reaction - watch the video above for a quick clip of the action!

Over four weeks during the summer, high school students from around the country attend classes taught by UCSB graduate students, career talks given by UCSB faculty, and conduct and present their own research through guided group projects.

I was a teaching assistant for the 2018 microbiology course, It's a Small World!

ENVIRONMENTORS

LOUISIANA STATE UNIVERSITY

The LSU EnvironMentors program pairs high school students from Scotlandville Magnet High School with undergraduate or graduate mentors, who guide them through an environmental science research project over the course of an academic year - from question and experiment, to poster and presentation.

We also take fun field trips - see photos below!
